Each and every human being in history has been created to make the world a better place. Some of us have been blessed with more health, wealth, wisdom, and security. But all of us have a unique ability to make a difference. There is a compelling Quran verse informing us that all living beings have been chosen by God as his “Khalifas (agents and inheritors) on Earth”. The question that constantly whispers in my ear and drives my every action is in what specific ways can I be God’s “Khalifa”?
With so much chaos surrounding us, where would I start? I had recently felt confused. I wanted to do something, but I didn’t know what. And so this book emerged. Writing it has been a process to overcome my paralysis and start the momentum. Through this self-reflection, I have come up with a five step formula to living forever happy.
I firstly hope this book will inspire others to determine their ultimate destiny, as I’ve attempted to do. Secondly, I hope to provide a roadmap for others towards an eternal life of happiness by helping those less fortunate utilizing our unique skills and interests. Thirdly, I hope to bridge the gap between the American and Saudi cultures. Extremists have created unjustified distrust on both sides. Most Americans feel Saudis are violent, backward, and unapproachable, while many Saudis see Americans as imperialistic warmongers. Having lived most of my life between both cultures, I will highlight the similar values and beliefs Americans and Saudis share. I aim to out-voice the extremists who have thus far dominated the conversation, and to provide a realistic picture of both cultures.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working for/with Hani and I've always found him to be different. His breakthrough mentality and passion for making a greater difference for the nation has been his driver. This book gives us an in-depth view to Hani's journey/search. A Saudi who was born and raised in the US, worked in Europe and Saudi is a cultural bridge and an advocate of tolerance and understanding. Hani has been and still is a great leader and visionary whose finger prints are widely visible in business, CSR and government. I have been and lived part of the journey in this book during the days we both spent at Procter & Gamble. A must read book..
In today's world it is important to open up to different cultures and perspectives.
It is rare to have a book written in english by a Saudi writer...
This on its own is worth considering to read the book.
Its a mix of a self development, autobiogrpahy, and a moderate islamic perspective on life and modern events.
This is by far one of the best books I have ever read and will be one of the very few books I keep on the shelf to be re-read at least once a year. It is great for anyone who has those burning questions within them that question their very existence. Why am I alive? Why did God create me with the skills that I have? Why now? What is my purpose? Allah tells us in verse 2 of Surah Al-Mulk that He created us to test which of us is best in deed/actions. Hani does a truly amazing job of capturing his personal journey in pursuit of the pleasure of his Lord through providing a service to his fellow men and thus living out this verse.
As a part-time doctoral researcher and an Editorial Board Member of an academic journal, reading is part and parcel of my daily activities. However, I must admit that I tend not to read texts that go beyond 150 pages. I simply get bored! ‘A Global Nomad’ however, although close to 500pgs is a book that I became instantly addicted to from the moment I picked it up whilst passing through the UAE last week. I read the book cover to cover faster than any other book I’ve read before. I both laughed and felt sorrow with Hani and truly felt his burning desire to achieve his aspirations and make the world we live in a better place.
I strongly recommend this book to all of my colleagues in the UK who, like me teach and are involved in youth work (and any other form of social reform efforts).
First of all, this is my 1st book i ever rad, finishing almost 500 pages is a big deal for me.
This book made a huge impact on me personally, after finishing the book it gave me a boost of excitement and hope that wherever your standing today you can make a change in your life and your community.
I felt this book was talking to me, already knew me opend my eyes to certin things, made me want to change my career and to do somthing i really enjoy and love for a living, I want that! and am planning to reach there one day inshallah.
This book is filled with amazing stories of Hani Khoja how he started and how he achieved his goals, plus exercises and tips that can help you in your personal and career life.
I learned that nothing is impossible and too late, try to allways be positive and have the courage take the first step and the rest will come.
I want to thank Mr.Hani Khoja for this great book and giving me hope and looking to life from a different angel.
I want to be a great khalifa one day inshallah.
I have read a good amount of self-development and inspirational books but this book was really different!. It inspired me and excited me and most of all it touched me, because it shares a real experience and journey of a Saudi citizen who is living in the same environment, surrounded with the same mindsets, obstacles and social challenges that are usually the major discouragements which make it difficult for most Saudis to achieve their dreams or goals, but he did it! We just need to have the courage to take the first step and everything will come later. The book will give you a practical recipe that will help you to reach your dreams.
I see that it is an advantage that this book has been written in English to reach the non-Arabic and Non-Muslim people and to share with them some of the Saudi and Islamic culture and believes and how they overlap with other societies and cultures, but I also recommend to be translated to Arabic so that it can be read by many Saudis as possible so they become inspired.
Am so proud to have Saudis like Mr Hani who are eager to succeed and to make a real difference in their life and to reflect a better image of Saudis and youth. Am so happy to see that there are people with good intentions who are working hard to make sure that people know more about prophet Mohammed PBUH and to understand Islam with a moderate perspective. This book is a good example to learn how to work for both your life and after life. I enjoyed reading this book and I will work hard to become a Khalifa as well.
This book is a handful
When I bought this book I thought it was a memoir or a biography only to realize it was a self-development type of guide, for those who want to make a difference. And it did make a difference in my life. The author was able through many milestones in his life seize the moment and take a "leap of faith" which has brought him the happiness he set out to find along his wonderful and successful journey.
What I was hoping to read however, were the mistakes and bad decisions he made along the way and how he learned from them because that is where experience is gained. I took away half a star for that. The other half star was for the use of numerical characters in the Arabic names like Sa3eeda or al-3ariadh, I just find that confusing for an English speaking reader and over simplistic for and Arab who is reading English.
Finally my advise to the author would be to have this book be translated to Arabic, that way it will reach a broader audience and those whom the author intended to reach.
This book encourages one to follow his dreams and remember that fears are the only thing impeding your success! Inspiring!
